12th Night Feast planned this evening

For The Transcript

January 10, 2009 01:00 am

St. John's Episcopal Church is raising money for the Norman Mission Ministry by inviting the community to attend their first 12th Night Feast, at 6 p.m. today.
Attendees will be transported back to the Renaissance era for a night of feasting and fanfare, with proceeds going toward local utility assistance.
A king and queen and their royal court will enjoy the dinner and evening of amusements, music, carols and revelry with their guests.
The night will begin with Wassail and a toast to "drink hail." The dinner menu includes a cucumber salad, roasted pork loin with carmelized sweet onions, tangy green beans and asparagus, bread and wine. A rustic apple tart will give a triumphant ending to the meal, but not the festivities.
Members of the royal court, under the direction of Byron Jackson, include Fr. Dwight and Mary Helt as the king and queen, Michael Stevens as the town crier, Cathy Sonleitner and Michael Kiester as court jesters, and Randy Marler as a knight. Sarah Colijn and Amy Schones are cast as Page One and Page Two.
Music, directed by Dr. Linda Kelly, will be offered by chorus members Chuck Bacon, Shannon Conley, Nichole Grooms, Lawrence Larsen, Elizabeth Roane, Mark Sessing, Don Taylor and Sandra Whalen. Matthew Haire McLendon will be on harpsichord and Jacob Larsen on trumpet. Additional music will be provided by the recorder group Waytes and Measures.
Tickets are $25 and may be purchased by calling the church at 321-3020.
