Taylor Wenzel of Newalla recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award honored to a scout.

A member of Troop 241, Taylor will be recognized at an Eagle Court of Honor 2 p.m. April 5 at Pecan Valley Baptist Church, 18901 Pecan Valley Road in Newalla.

Taylor is the son of John and Janelle Wenzel.

For his Eagle service project, Taylor organized and oversaw the construction of two dugouts, complete with benches, and a spectator bench at the ball field at Pecan Valley Baptist Church. He also had the backstop painted. The original ball field construction was an Eagle project of his brother, Adam Wenzel, in 2003.

Taylor received support for his project from Pastor Ed Moore of Pecan Valley Baptist Church and Brian Chinn of Boy Scout Troop 241. Supplies for the project were donated by BBM, Lumber 84, Fox Lumber, Quick Service Steel Co., Duane Richardson of DSR Services, LLC and Home Depot. Also assisting with the project were Wayne Norris, Tom and Tommy Uglean, Kendra Standlee, Gary Philebaum, and John and Janelle Wenzel. Taylor also wants to thank Harold and June McNutt for the loan of a flatbed trailer to haul building materials and tools to the site.

Along the way to becoming an Eagle Scout, Taylor earned 36 merit badges and has attained the rank of Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow. He has participated in numerous Boy Scout campouts and activities. Taylor is a senior at Little Axe and currently attends classes through Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics. Taylor will attend UCO in the fall and is interested in a career in Forensic Engineering.

Troop 241 meets Monday evenings at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman.
