To mark the establishment of the Center for Cinema Comedy at the University of Oklahoma, the Film and Video Studies program in the OU College of Arts and Sciences will host two events featuring comedy writer/screenwriter Stephen Mazur.
At 7 p.m. April 17, Mazur will screen and discuss the 1997 Jim Carrey film "Liar, Liar," for which he wrote the screenplay, in Meacham Auditorium, Oklahoma Memorial Union, 900 Asp Ave.
He also will lead a comedy screenwriting workshop 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 19 in 123 George Lynn Cross Hall, 770 Van Vleet Oval.
The workshop will be co-presented by Andrew Horton, Jeanne Hoffman Smith professor of Film and Video Studies, whose screenwriting credits include award-winning features and Brad Pitt's first feature film role, "Dark Side of the Sun" (1989).
The film screening and workshop are co-sponsored by the OU Film and Video Studies program, Union Programming Board, College of Arts and Sciences, Office of the President and donor Jeanne Hoffman Smith. A reception sponsored by the OU Office of Student Affairs will follow the screening and discussion.
The screening and discussion are free and open to the public. Cost of the screenwriting workshop is $10 for full-time students and faculty; $20 for the general public. To reserve a space or for more information, call the FVS office at 325-3020 or e-mail fvs@ou.edu.
