Kiesel, Inman to speak at Cornbread and Beans
Two recent University of Oklahoma law grads now serving as Democrats in the Oklahoma House of Representatives will be the speakers Friday at the Tyner Cornbread & Beans luncheon sponsored by the Cleveland County Democrats and held at Stepbrothers restaurant, 423 S. Webster Ave. State Rep. Ryan Kiesel serves from Seminole and Rep. Scott Inman from Del City.
Both legislators are political science honor graduates from OU and hold juris doctorates from the OU College of Law. Kiesel was elected in 2004 while still in law school and then received his law degree with honors. He won the Higher Education Alumni Council Legislative Newcomer of the Year award in 2005. Inman, who graduated first in his class at Del City High School, practiced law in Oklahoma City before his election to the legislature.
Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. with the speakers beginning about noon. Cornbread and beans are $5 including tea and gratuity, or attendees may order from the menu. The meeting is open to the public.
McKee favors
Marshall for Ward 2
Former assistant city attorney Michael McKee, who finished third in Ward 2 voting, has announced that he is supporting Chebon Marshall for the open Ward 2 seat being vacated by Richard Stawicki.
McKee notes that “both of the candidates are intelligent, capable of making subtle discernments, articulate and likeable individuals, each having their own strengths and weaknesses. He believes Marshall is more eloquent than Kovach, and notes that both strongly desire the Ward 2 council seat, and both have expended goodly sums beyond what they might receive from their serving.”
He writes that Marshall returned to Norman to help care for family members, which “denotes a proper upbringing and substantial character.”
McKee notes that Kovach appears at most city council meetings and stays until they are over. He writes that Marshall has educated himself about the issues facing the city.
McKee indicates he believes both ran a “clean” primary, and Marshall has consistently run a “clean” run-off.
Norman HOA Alliance supports Kovach
The Norman Home Owners Association Alliance announced recently its endorsement of Tom Kovach for the Ward 2 City Council seat.
In a press release, the Alliance endorsed Kovach “because of his standing as a longtime Norman homeowner and his strong commitment and passion to resolving the important and pressing issue of storm water management in the city of Norman.”
“As a person who has firsthand experience with an eroding creek in his own backyard, Mr. Kovach will bring this commitment and passion with him to the council,” the statement reads.
“The city’s proposed storm water master plan and storm water utility is the most im-portant public policy and fina-ncial issue facing homeowners this year.
This plan is not a mere luxury. The City must develop, implement, and fund such a master plan
in order to comply with federal EPA mandates.
“Mr. Kovach understands the crucial importance of working with the council and the voters to develop and implement such a storm water plan. He also understands the crucial importance of funding and implementing this mandated plan in the most affordable, efficient manner possible.
