NEW: Norman North girls basketball coach named

— Norman Public Schools has named a head girls basketball coach for the 2008-2009 school year.
Jeffrey Blough was appointed to the position during a special NPS board meeting held Monday.
According to his resume, Blough has taught special education at Norman North High School since August 2002. He previously taught in the same curriculum at Whittier and Longfellow middle schools.
The resume stated Blough's coaching experience includes head assistant coach for the Norman North boys' basketball team and head coach for the freshman boys' basketball team.
Also, Truman Elementary principal Shirley Simmons was selected to be the NPS director of staff development/student achievement. Simmons will replace Elaine Hale who will retire later this month.
Roosevelt Elementary principal Susan Powell was appointed to the principal position at Eisenhower Elementary for the 2008-2009 school year. Randy Waddell, the current Eisenhower principal, is retiring.
Norman Public School administrators will have to fill four vacant principal seats for the next school year. Sandra Drennan, Adams Elementary principal, and Doris Sanders, Lakeview Elementary principal, also are retiring at the end of the school year.
