'Metamorphosis' planned for summer

The Norman Transcript

Transcript Staff

Teens ages 12 through 18 will find programs designed for them at their hometown libraries.

This year's teen summer reading challenge is titled "Metamorphosis @ Your Library."? Teens who sign up for the summer reading challenge will receive a Back Bag and chances to win prizes.?

Teens visiting the Norman Public Library, 225 N. Webster Ave., may signup for the Summer Reading Challenge at any event. Teen activities begin May 30, as the first day to register to participate in Teen Metamorphosis Short Film Contest.

The contest is designed to allow teens to exercise their talent and creativity by making a short film, between three and 10 minutes long, that expresses the notion of a metamorphosis. Registration forms are available at the information desk or online. Top entries will be played at the Teen Metamorphosis Film Festival July 25. Winning entries also will be viewed from the PLS Web site.

The Norman library will offer teens an Altered Book Workshop 2 p.m. June 3, where they will create a work of art from old books and other found objects. All supplies are provided and registration is required. Call the library at 701-2620 to register or drop by the information desk. ?

Game One is a video gaming event just for teens 6 p.m. June 6. All games are rated "E for Everyone" or "T for Teen." Teens may bring a game to share, but it must be approved by the librarian. No registration is required.

Mixed Media Art is a workshop that features artist Lynn Melton demonstrating how to modify traditional watercolors to create a mixed-media masterpiece 2 p.m. June 10. Supplies are provided and registration is required and limited.

Friday Night Flicks will be 7 p.m. June 13. Teens in seventh to 12th grades with a valid library card can catch a creepy, crawly movie and popcorn. Free tickets will be available at the library's information desk and at the door on movie night.?

All the events are free; programs, rewards and prizes are made possible through the support of local sponsors and Friends of the Library.

To register, call or visit the library. For more information about what the library offers this summer, visit the library or log on to www.justsoyouknow.us for calendars, driving directions and phone numbers.
