AARP Oklahoma to host health care panel

Transcript Staff

AARP Oklahoma will host a special community conversation in Moore as part of its nationwide Divided We Fail campaign to break political gridlock so that all Americans have affordable, quality health care.

The discussion and dinner is free and open to the public but reservations must be made by calling 1-877-926-8300. The event is 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Yellow Rose Theater, 1005 SW 4th St.

At 6:45 p.m. a panel discussion will feature prominent local leaders -- including Bill Pierce, president of Baptist Retirement Village Retirement communities; Health IT consultant Deresa Claybrook; senior vice president of Exchange National Bank Janice Hunter; Shari Kinney, administrator of Cleveland County Health Department; Brenda Roberts, executive director of Moore Chamber of Commerce; and Bob Bristow, Oklahoma AARP president.

Local AARP volunteers will canvass the town that day distributing purple ribbons as a symbol of the tone of Divided We Fail which seeks to unite Republicans (red) and Democrats (blue) to develop bipartisan solutions (purple) to the two most pressing domestic issues facing the United States: affordable health care for all Americans and long-term financial security.

Nearly 10,000 Oklahomans have already signed a Divided We Fail card pledging to vote for candidates of both parties who will work to end gridlock in Washington and come up with solutions to American's health care crisis.

For more information on Divided We Fail or to sign the pledge online, visit www.dividedwefail.org.?
