Hot dog -- it's the Fourth of July and time for the Norman Day Celebration, beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday and presented by the Norman Parks -- Recreation Department.

Norman Recreation Superintendent Jeff Hill said everything is in place for Norman Day festivities and holiday food provisions, including hot dogs, chopped brisket, pulled pork sandwiches and hot link sandwiches, funnel cakes, corn dogs, nachos, fries, cheese frees and fried cheese-on-a-stick.

Events begin at 4 p.m. with pony rides, the games. Some of the favorite activities that will be back this year are softball, the Baby Crawl and Toddler Trot, the Money Count Jar and the Kiwanis Club Free Watermelon feast, beginning at 6 p.m. until it's all gone.

Other attractions include Moon Bounces, the "Rock, Paper, Scissors" championship and the Norman Day Nickel Find.

The music will go from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with Souled Out and will continue from 7:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. with the John Arnold Band.

The Norman Day Fireworks Spectacular will begin around 9:45 p.m. The City of Norman spends $25,000 on the fireworks display, Hill said.

"We try to keep it a family atmosphere, with something for everyone from kids to adults."
