Students enrolled in Moore Norman Technology Center's Technical and Engineering programs have spent the past year constructing a full-scale house. Now it's complete and ready for sale through sealed-bid auction. Bid opening begins 2 p.m. July 17.
The minimum bid on the house is $57,700, and the high acceptable bidder must deliver $2,000 earnest money to MNTC, in cashiers or certified check, no later than 2 p.m. July 24.
The house is available for inspection by appointment only from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at 4701 12th Ave. NW.
The project has encompassed the expertise of instructors and drive from students to construct, wire, trim and detail the entire house. It began with the computer automated drafting and design program drawing the blueprints for the structure, followed by carpentry students constructing the frame and interior.
MNTC's air conditioning and refrigeration students stepped in to run the components for efficient heating and air capabilities and the electrical and automated industrial systems class installed the wiring and Cat5 cables needed for Internet and phone service.
The house is 1,560 square feet, and should not be confused with a mobile home. It has been constructed the same way homes on permanent foundations are, with all supplies being purchased from local suppliers.
The house has 2-inch-by-6-inch exterior walls and 2-inch-by-4-inch interior walls. The house has thermally insulated windows and meets the Americans with Disabilities Act standards for door widths.
Income from the sale of the house over the cost of materials used will go back into MNTC's general fund, and will then be available for supply costs for the next roll away house. No Moore Norman board members or administrators are eligible to bid on the home.
Some of the buyer's financial responsibilities include: plot of land, foundation, water, sewer, utility connection, stairs (wooden stairs are available upon request through MNTC), all permits, city fees and relocation costs.
Call 364-5763, extension 7280 for viewing appointments and information, or visit www.mntechnology.com for information and the bid sheet. Once auctioned, the house will be transported to its final destination, to be determined by the buyer.
