Noble High band members slated to be in Macy’s T-Day parade

Transcript Staff

NOBLE — Three Noble High School band students recently were selected to members of the 2008 Macy’s Great American Marching Band that will perform at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City Nov. 27, 2008.

Sarah Donica, Caitlyn McElreath and Ashland Dickens will perform in the 82nd anniversary of one of the most famous parades in America.

Macy’s Parade is legendary for its rigid standards and highly competitive selection process, said Fred Queen, Director of Bands for Noble Schools. The parade band is directed by Dr. Richard Good of Auburn University and Dr. Jon Woods of Ohio State University and showcases talented students from all across America, he said.

Sarah Donica is a junior at Noble High School and besides playing the trumpet in band, participates in volleyball, soccer and area rodeo events not to mention community and church activities. She also was a member of the Oklahoma Centennial Band which represented the State of Oklahoma in the Rose Parade in Pasadena California.

Caitlyn McElreath also is a trumpet player. The sophomore participates in many of the same activities as Donica.

Ashland Dickens is a senior alto saxophone player at Noble and has participated in Coda Band, OBU Honor Band, Southwestern Oklahoma Band Camps and plays trombone in addition to the sax.

“These three young ladies are outstanding students and quality citizens,” Queen said. “They are committed to excellence in whatever they do. Our band staff and faculty are proud of their accomplishments and representation of our school, and excited about their opportunity to participate in this national event.”

The girls are currently fund-raising to help defray the costs of this trip. Contributions may be sent to Noble Bands (MGAMB), 4601 Etowah Road, Noble, OK 73068. Or call the Noble band room at 872-7620 with questions or funding suggestions.
