Sooners lose two scholarships, vacate 2005 wins

By John Shinn

Transcript Sports Writer

Oklahoma received its penalties from the NCAA Wednesday for infractions stemming from former players Rhett Bomar and J.D. Quinn’s employment at a Norman car dealership.

The Sooner football program will lose two scholarships through the 2009-10 season and have to vacate all wins in which Bomar and Quinn competed in during the 2005 season.

OU went 8-4 for the season but the ruling makes the record 0-4 and it can no longer make mention of its Holiday Bowl victory over Oregon.

The NCAA Committee on Infractions also accepted OU’s self-imposed sanctions of disassociating itself from former Big Red Sports and Imports manager Brad McRae until at least Aug. 21, 2011. McRae is also restricted from supervising any of the school’s student-athletes during that period.

OU also imposed reducing the number of football coaches who can recruit off campus this fall by one.
