Newalla man faces assault charge

A Newalla man faces a felony assault charge, following an alleged attack on his wife and brother-in-law, after his wife told the man about an extramarital affair.

Troy Lee Hyatt, 47, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — a quarter-inch by half-inch by 48-inch steel plate.

A sheriff’s deputy said he made contact with Hyatt, who was wearing blood-stained blue jeans and no shirt, at 3 a.m. in the front yard of Hyatt’s residence in Newalla.

The deputy said Hyatt told him his wife admitted to having an affair with another man. Hyatt said he “blacked out and did not know what happened after that,” the deputy said.

Hyatt’s wife said she, her husband and her brother were outside drinking beer when she told her husband about her affair. She said Hyatt began yelling at her, and picked up a steel plate from a work shed and began striking her daughter’s vehicle with it. She said she walked up and asked him to stop and he began swinging the steel plate at her. The wife said she stepped back just as Hyatt hit her in the head with the steel plate.

The wife’s brother said he tried to stop the attack and was struck in the left leg with the steel plate. The brother said Hyatt also bit the fingers on his left hand.

Both victims were transported to Norman Regional Hospital, the woman with a 6-inch cut to her forehead and the brother with a 2-inch-wide cut to his left leg and a cut on his fingers. Hyatt was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center.

Other felonies include:

• Glenn Todd Carter, 45, Oklahoma City, assault and battery upon a police officer; stalking; use of a scanner during the commission of a felony;

• Daniel Joseph Willis, 26, Norman, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous drug;

• Robert Walter Acker, 42, Moore, unlawful possession of controlled dangerous drugs; feloniously carrying a firearm;

• Susan Rebecca Fajt, 31, Norman, uttering a forged instrument;

• Lemona D. Herrell, also known as Lemona Dessarine Horn, 44, Norman, uttering a forged instrument.
