NEW: Football game day parking different this year

Some Oklahoma football fans this year may find the spot they've always parked at isn't there any more.

The City of Norman has modified the parking plan for public streets this year in an effort to improve the game day experience and increase public safety, Norman police Capt. Mike Praizner said in a release.

This year all public street parking will be clearly identified by parking signs, Praizner said.

"By following the parking signs, game day parking will be done in an orderly fashion that will allow the Fire Department and other public safety vehicles to access any necessary areas around the University of Oklahoma," he said.

The most visible change to fans and citizens will be parking limited to one side of a street in some areas. This change is meant to improve motorist and pedestrian access and decrease potential obstacles for public safety responses.

In order to accommodate fans who may be displaced from a former parking place, OU plans to add paid parking in a lot on the east side of George Avenue, just south of OU's duck pond, Praizner said. The University will continue to offer free parking at the Lloyd Noble Center.

Directions for both locations are listed below:

From I-35 - Go east on State Highway 9 to Jenkins Avenue, then north on Jenkins Avenue to the Lloyd Noble Center parking lot. To access the George Avenue parking area continue north on Jenkins Avenue to Stinson Street, turn east on Stinson Street and proceed three blocks to the lot entrance.

From 12th Avenue - 12th Avenue to Lindsey Street, west on Lindsey Street to George Avenue, and south on George Avenue to the parking entrance. To access the Lloyd Noble Center parking lot continue south on George Avenue to Stinson Street, west on Stinson Street to Jenkins Avenue, and south on Jenkins Avenue to the Lloyd Noble Center parking lot.
