A Starbucks will open in the University of Oklahoma's Oklahoma Memorial Union Oct. 1, despite recent store closings around the country.
"They had expanded too fast," said Kevin Barker, director of retail operations for OU Housing and Food Services, "but they still wanted to go for us."
The Starbucks will be a franchise, owned by OU but with some proceeds going back to Starbucks.
The nearest Starbucks is across Boyd Street at Campus Corner. Coffee shops around campus serve Starbucks coffee, but are not official Starbucks shops.
The Starbucks will replace STA Travel in the Union.
