OKLAHOMA CITY -- An 18-year-old man was arrested in Oklahoma City Wednesday for allegedly shooting another man in the neck with a handgun.

Later, after being interviewed by Moore police, the man reportedly was allowed to use the restroom and briefly escaped from the Moore Police Department, running into a nearby neighborhood with officers in pursuit.

Moore police spokesman Sgt. Todd Strickland said the U.S. Marshal's fugitive squad arrested Tyler Lance Meek, also known as Tyler Lance Ward, in Oklahoma City Wednesday morning.

"Acting on a request from the Moore Police Department, the marshal's office arrested Mr. Meek," Strickland said. "He was then taken to the Moore Police headquarters where he was interviewed, then transferred to the Cleveland County jail."

Strickland said Meek was charged with shooting with intent to kill, and possession of a firearm after adjudication.

Meek also was charged with escape from lawful custody. According to court documents, Meek, after his arrest by the fugitive squad, was taken to the Moore Police Department at 110 E. Main St., interviewed by police and informed he was under arrest.

"At the conclusion of the interview, the defendant asked to use the restroom. A uniformed officer escorted the defendant to the restroom and removed the defendant's handcuffs to allow the defendant the use of the facilities," states a court affidavit.

Meek ran past the officer, down a hallway and out an exterior door of the police department, police said.

A Moore officer reportedly was injured when "he attempted to grab the defendant's leg and fell to the ground," police said.

Meek was recaptured by Moore officers "after a foot pursuit in an adjacent neighborhood."

A sheriff's officer said Meek would be arraigned today in Cleveland County District Court.

Meek was being sought by police after he allegedly got into an argument with another man just after midnight Saturday at a residence in the 800 block of Northwest 12th Street in Moore.

Meek "pulled out a silver handgun and fired it at the victim, striking him in the neck," police said.

The victim told police he'd known Meek for years, and said Meek fled before officers arrived.
