Norman police are investigating a series of accidents late Tuesday, the last of which caused the death of a Newalla man.
Lawrence Slover, 27, of Newalla, was dead at the scene at about 9:40 p.m. after being struck by a car in the 1800 block of 180th Avenue Northeast, just south of Rock Creek Road, police said.
Capt. Leonard Judy said Slover was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile northbound on 180th Avenue Northeast when he “drifted left of center and clipped” a 1999 Honda Civic being driven southbound by Brandi Dittrick, 16, of Norman.
“Both drivers stopped and got out of their vehicles and had a brief conversation, then Slover got back in his car and continued driving north. After a short distance, Slover decided to stop and get out of his vehicle to survey the damage,” Judy said.
“Meanwhile, a third vehicle, a ’93 Ford Mustang driven by John Rushing, 28, of Oklahoma City, was traveling northbound on 180th and collided head-on with the unoccupied Dittrick vehicle, knocking (the Dittrick vehicle) rearward and spinning it around 180 degrees,” he said.
Rushing stopped, got out of his vehicle and had a conversation with Dittrick, and then resumed driving north. Rushing’s vehicle then struck Slover’s vehicle and Slover, sending the car and the body to opposite sides of the road, Judy said.
Slover was dead at the scene. Neither Rushing nor Dittrick required transport to the hospital, he said.
The accident is under investigation by Norman police, he said.
