Professors chosen for Hall of Fame

The Norman Transcript

Transcript Staff

Three professors from the University of Oklahoma are among 10 people to be inducted in the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in October.

Billy Crynes, dean and professor emeritus of engineering at OU after service at Oklahoma State University; Jacob F. Larson, OU professor emeritus of music,; and Charles J. Mankin, director of the Oklahoma Geological Survey and professor at OU, were chosen for the honor.

Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society President John Parrish recently announced the inductees. Parrish also revealed that this year's induction ceremony and dinner will be Oct. 2 at the Oklahoma History Center in cooperation with the Oklahoma Historical Society.

"The move to the History Center is appropriate for us since we relocated our society offices to the center," Parrish said.

The 10 inductees selected for this year's class will join more than 100 others inducted since 1994 when the ceremony was begun.

"This year's class enhances the roster of those who have made significant contributions over a long period of time to higher education and the state" Parrish said.

This year's additional honorees are: Alvin Alcorn, former vice president of finance for the University of Central Oklahoma and Rose State College regent; James P. Brill, professor emeritus of petroleum engineering at the University of Tulsa; B. Curtis Hamm, professor emeritus of business, Oklahoma State University; Jean Bell Manning, vice president of academic affairs, Langston University; Lloyd K. Musselman, professor of history, Oklahoma City University; Jeanine Rhea, professor of pusiness, OSU; and Gary L. Smith, executive vice chancellor (retired), Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

Individuals interested in receiving an invitation to the Hall of Fame ceremony may inquire of the Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society at Post Office Box, 60388, Oklahoma City, OK 73146-0388 or by calling 522-0779.
