A man recently released from prison was charged Thursday with stabbing his mother to death Sunday at their south Oklahoma City residence.
Jimmy Wayne "Buckethead" Gilbert, 35, was charged with first-degree murder. He is being detained without bond in Oklahoma County, awaiting transfer to the Cleveland County Detention Center, according to sheriff's department officials.
"The first degree murder charge is based on allegations that, during an argument with his mother, Jimmy Wayne Gilbert stabbed her in the neck with a kitchen knife," said Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn. "She died as a result of the stab wound to her neck."
The stabbing occurred at the Gilberts' residence in the 10300 block of Casa Linda Drive near Western and 104th Avenue, Mashburn said.
Gilbert recently had been paroled from prison and was being monitored by a GPS ankle bracelet device. He was on a curfew requiring he be home at 5 p.m. each day.
Gilbert was convicted in Oklahoma County Sept. 18, 2007, of concealing stolen property, and given 27 years in prison. He previously had been released on parole, returned to prison on a parole violation, and released again.
"I'm not sure how long he'd been out this time," Mashburn said.
Gilbert also was convicted in Cleveland County April 15, 1988, of concealing stolen property, and given 10 years in prison. He served seven years in prison between April 15, 1988, and July 14, 1995, according to a Department of Corrections Web site.
