Disguised as a hospital worker, man caught stealing discarded narcotics

By Tom Blakey

Police arrested a man at Norman Regional Hospital early Wednesday, allegedly disguised as a surgical tech employee and rummaging through a container holding multiple vials of discarded narcotics while hiding in a restroom stall.

Chad David Crabtree, 32, Norman, was charged Thursday with unlawful possession of controlled dangerous drugs.

According to police, Crabtree, an employee of Edmond Regional Hospital, was arrested in the NRH Ambulatory Care Unit.

"Staff located him hiding in a restroom stall, disguised as a surgical tech employee, in possession of a biohazard sharps/medical container. Within the container were multiple half-full or partially full vials of narcotics, including demerol, morphine and valium," according to police reports. "He was rummaging through the container and made an effort to conceal it when staff found him."

Crabtree also had a new syringe needle in his pocket and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, police said.

A certified drug dog alerted to Crabtree's vehicle in the hospital parking lot, police said. Inside the vehicle, police found "multiple syringes and vials of narcotics," according to court documents.
