Oklahoma basketball player Ray Willis was released from Norman Regional Hospital Wednesday and is expected to make a full recovery from the injuries he received during an assault at a Norman night club early last Sunday morning.
OU coach Jeff Capel said in a statement Thursday the injuries the freshman guard from Atlanta received were severe.
"He sustained multiple wounds, one of which resulted in a partially collapsed lung," Capel said. ?
OU defensive end Frank Alexander also was injured in the incident. However, he was treated and released from Norman Regional Hospital Sunday.
Capel said it will take time for Willis to recover, but he expects him to be ready when practice begins in about six weeks.
"There is no definitive timetable for his return to the court. We expect him to be ready for the start of practice in mid-October," Capel said. "Ray is a talented, confident player and we expect him to have a positive impact on our season."
Norman Police Lt. Leonard Judy said investigators have been unable to identify any suspects in the Sunday morning assault.
"It's kind of hard to charge somebody when we don't know who it is," he said.
