A Norman man will face an assault charge after he allegedly struck his girlfriend's father with a steel bar, then backed over him with an SUV while fleeing from the scene in the 100 block of East Johnson Street, according to police reports.

Robert Donovan Jolls, 33, was charged Friday in Cleveland County District Court with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

According to court documents, the victim was outside an SUV Aug. 11 in which his daughter was sitting in the passenger seat, telling her to get out of the vehicle because he "didn't like who she's been spending time with."

Witnesses said Jolls exited the SUV from the driver's seat and struck the man in the left shoulder with a foot-long steel bar. Jolls allegedly got back in the SUV, and backed over the victim with the SUV as he left, witnesses said.

The victim sustained a contusion on the shoulder, and scrapes and cuts elsewhere on his body, police said.

· Richard L. Ford,61, Oklahoma City, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol;
