Dr. Laura Boyd will be the featured speaker at the Cornbread -- Beans luncheon on Sept. 12, to be held at StepBrothers Restaurant, 423. S. Webster. She will discuss the recent Democratic convention, which she attended as a delegate. She will be joined by Elizabeth Vinyard, an OU senior in political science, who also attended the Denver convention. Dr. Boyd was the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in 1998 and also the nominee for lieutenant governor in 2002. Boyd, who represented Norman in the Oklahoma House from 1992-1998, serves as the national co-chair of the Women Business Policy Group for Obama. She also?serves as executive director of the Oklahoma Therapeutic Foster Care Association, a professional association of 15 agencies working with seriously disturbed children. In addition, Boyd is owner and CEO of Policy and Performance Consultants, which assists both profit and not-for-profit groups with their relationships with government agencies. The luncheon, sponsored by the Cleveland County Democrats, starts at 11:30 a.m. with the speaker beginning about noon. Cornbread and beans are $5 including tea and gratuity, or attendees may order from the menu. The meeting is open to the public. -- Transcript Staff
