Rhett Bomar, named this week as the starting quarterback for the University of Oklahoma in Saturday's game against the University of Tulsa, was arrested last Sunday for minor in possession of alcohol by Norman police. Norman Police Lt. Tom Easley said a data entry error kept the incident from being reported earlier. Bomar is 20 years old. The misdemeanor charge resulted from an incident which happened at approximately 1:50 p.m. Police first responded to a possible alcohol poisoning in the 400 block of Alameda Street, involving a 17-year-old woman, Easley said. Information gathered by the officer led police to a residence in the 400 block of Castro Avenue, where Bomar and several others were drinking mixed drinks, Easley said. "Bomar was drinking out of a glass mug, and the officer asked him what the mug contained," Easley said. "Bomar told him, 'Dr. Pepper,' and the officer asked him, "And alcohol?' and Bomar replied, 'Yes.'" The matter is scheduled to be heard in municipal court, Easley said. A spokesman for the University of Oklahoma Athletics Department said the matter would be handled within the team. Tom Blakey 366-3540 tblakey@normantranscript.com
