Several felony charges against area prison inmates were among the felonies filed recently in Cleveland County District Court.
Maximiliano Mariscal, 25, Lexington Correctional Center, was charged Tuesday with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, stemming from an incident Aug. 8, when Mariscal allegedly attacked another inmate on a housing unit yard, with a "lock in a sock."
The weapon is fashioned with the assailant putting a padlock in the end of a sock, and swinging it by the other end to injure the victim. The victim was struck several times, and was transported by "Life Flight" to a hospital in Oklahoma City, according to prison officials.
Charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon were filed Tuesday against Joey Dee Couey, 39, Lexington Correctional Center.
Prison officials said Couey attacked another inmate by striking him in the head with a large, flat piece of metal with a sharpened edge. Couey had "manipulated the metal to resemble a machete," officials said.
The victim's injuries were treated by prison medical staff, officials said.
Charges of assault and battery upon a Department of Corrections employee were filed Wednesday against Steven Darrell Whibbey, 35, Lexington Correctional Center.
According to information filed with the charge, Whibbey, while being restrained July 26 by correctional staff, attempted to flush contraband down a toilet. Whibbey is accused of pushing a correctional officer into a wall, injuring the man's finger.
Other charges filed recently include:
Bailey Dawn Blake, 19, Moore, embezzlement;
Brandon Dean Cunningham, 20, Moore, unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute within 2,000 feet of a school;
Megan Miranda Conner, 27, Norman, larceny from a house;
