The Cleveland County Family YMCA in Norman will host its sixth annual Tie-Dye Tri 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
The USAT-sanctioned triathlon consists of a 500-yard swim, a 12-mile bike race and a 5K run. Some 250 triathletes from Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas are expected to compete. For the first time in the event's history, all of the entries are full, and registration is closed.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Cleveland County Family YMCA's Camp Sunshine, a summer day camp for children with special needs. Last year, 98 percent of Camp Sunshine participants received a scholarship to assist with tuition.
Triathletes will receive a tie-dyed shirt, a race bag with goodies and a post-race meal courtesy of Rib Crib. There will be a finish-line party and microchip timing, provided by DG Productions. The race will take place in and around the YMCA, beginning with the swim in the YMCA's indoor pool.
Sponsors for the event include Rib Crib, Design Graphics, Ideal Homes, Top of the World, Pepsi, Johnson Controls, Mister Robert, Therapy in Motion, First American Bank, Knippelmier Chevrolet, Sysco Foods of Oklahoma, Thompson Pool -- Patio, Home Creations, Praxis College of Massage, Road ID and Mister Short Stop.
People interested in competing in the triathlon are encouraged to register early next year, as space is limited.
