Collins considers alternative vehicles ?

?OKLAHOMA CITY -- At the request of Rep. Wallace Collins, D-Norman, an interim study was conducted last Tuesday to review the possibility of allowing additional vehicles to be licensed and deemed "street legal."?

Collins said he was asked by constituents to consider the four-wheeled vehicles as a fuel efficient alternative to current modes of transportation. The vehicles are often referred to as "Light Personal Vehicles" (LPV's) and are also known as "Quadracycles."

These vehicles are legal in several states including Arizona, Wyoming, Montana and Utah.

?Given these vehicles are essentially four-wheeled motorcycles, the primary advantage lies in their increased stability, visibility and fuel efficiency.

Collins, a three-term legislator, is proposing introducing two classes of "Quadracycles": a smaller version that would be street legal,?but not necessarily highway legal, and a larger version which would be both street and highway legal. The smaller cycle would be of 250c.c. engine size or less, capable of speeds of approximately 55-60 mph, and would deliver up to 60 miles a gallon of gasoline. The larger version could travel at speeds of about 75 mph, but would still be able to travel at least 40 miles on a gallon of gas.

Rice, Inhofe to speak to State Chamber

TULSA -- Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Andrew Rice will speak to the State Chamber of Commerce at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Jim Inhofe will speak to members after Rice, as will Independent candidate Stephen Wallace.

Firefighters endorse Wallace Collins

State Rep. Wallace Collins, D-Norman, announced the endorsement of his re-election campaign for HD 45 by many firefighter groups across Oklahoma.

"I am very proud to have the endorsement of all these fire fighters across the state," Collins said. "Because these are America's First Responders in time of need or emergency, I think it is quite an honor for them to recognize my support of them."

Collins listed the following Oklahoma firefighters as supporters: The Professional Fire Fighters of Norman, Local 2067, IAFF; The Professional Fire Fighters of Oklahoma City, local 157, IAFF; The Professional Fire Fighters of Oklahoma (statewide organization), The Oklahoma City Retired Fire Fighters Association; and Tulsa Professional Fire Fighters, Local 176, IAFF.
