Drug dog a hit in recent I-35 bust

Lux found large quantity of meth, cocaine

A certified drug dog named Lux -- with more than four drug busts to his credit in the past year -- sniffed out a large quantity of methamphetamine and crack cocaine in a vehicle on I-35 Monday.

Deangelo Dewayne Turner, 32, Salina, Kan., was charged Friday with unlawful trafficking in illegal drugs and failure to display a tax stamp on a controlled dangerous substance.

Norman Police Detective Darrin Morgan reportedly stopped a black SUV traveling 70 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone around 1:30 p.m. Monday. Morgan said Lux alerted to the passenger door of the vehicle. Inside a white towel in the glove box, police found 114 grams of methamphetamine and 28 grams of crack cocaine.

Some of Lux's busts this year include:

· Oct. 1, Lux sniffed out eight and a half ounces of cocaine in a car on I-35, causing the arrest of two men from Laredo, Texas.

· In July, Lux sniffed out more than $42,000 in suspected drug proceeds, a small bundle of marijuana and scales with white residue, in a vehicle on I-35. A woman from Illinois and a man from Wisconsin were charged.

· In March, Lux alerted to a vehicle on I-35 and a Grove man was arrested for allegedly transporting 15 pounds of marijuana.

· In January, a woman from Wichita, Kan. was arrested for allegedly transporting 42 pounds of marijuana concealed in the spare tire of her vehicle, pulled over on I-35 by Morgan and alerted to by Lux.
