Published October 16, 2008 12:54 am - Youth Leadership Oklahoma (YLOK), a statewide youth leadership program sponsored by Leadership Oklahoma, is accepting applications for YLOK Class IX. The class program will be June 7-12, 2009. Applicants must be high school juniors or home-schooled equivalent. Youth leadership accepts applications For the Transcript Youth Leadership Oklahoma (YLOK), a statewide youth leadership program sponsored by Leadership Oklahoma, is accepting applications for YLOK Class IX. The class program will be June 7-12, 2009. Applicants must be high school juniors or home-schooled equivalent.
The organization accepts a class of 50 members each year. Criteria for selection include demonstrated leadership ability in activities such as student council, athletics and service clubs in their schools and communities as well as an exhibited commitment to community service and extra-curricular activities. Participants are also considered on the basis of geographic, racial and cultural diversity. There is no charge for students to attend. "In 2001, extensive research was conducted to create a model youth program unlike any other in the country," said Ann Ackerman, CEO of Leadership Oklahoma. "It was important that the program be designed to be educational and inspiring and to instill in our young leaders a hope, pride and responsibility for Oklahoma's future." Applications may be downloaded from the Leadership Oklahoma Web site at www.leadershipoklahoma.com or requested by calling the office at 848-0001. Completed applications must be received in the Leadership Oklahoma office, located at 5500 N. Western, Suite 142, Oklahoma City, OK 73118, no later than 5 p.m. Dec. 1.
