Norman's 'Hottest Non-profit Event' will take place Friday at the Community Services Building, 1183 E. Main St. in Norman.

The 2009 Chili Cook-off will feature more than 20 types of chili, including three vegetarian entries. Lunch will be served at noon.

This year's judges are James Ayres, Jill Brown, Cas Ciulla, Sheri Durica, Karen Holp, Cody Ponder, David Stringer, Ann Way, Fred Walden, and Bob Usry. Prizes will be awarded for "Best Non-Profit " and "Best Individual" chili.

The Cleveland County Genealogical Society Library took the prize in 2008 and one-year ownership of the 'Traveling Trophy'.

An accompanying silent auction will be conducted 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and will feature works by artists Kelly Haney, Jonny Hawk, Marilyn LeFlore, Tim Saupitty,Mark Shaleen, Jerome Tiger, and Corazon Watkins. Gift baskets, certificates, and many other crafts will be available for bid including a "Basketball Package" with tickets to both University of Oklahoma men's basketball and Oklahoma City Thunder games.

"This winter, tenants located in the CSBI facility will benefit from the installation of a new natural gas boiler, " said Becky Aguilar, executive director of CSBI. "Proceeds from the Chili Cook-off will be combined with grants from ONEOK, Inc. and UPS to be used towards its purchase. The efficiency of a the new boiler will save energy and money, and will warm our 59,000 square-foot building more quickly."

CSBI houses these non-profit agencies: Aging Services, Inc; Among Friends Activity Center for Disabled Adults; Bethesda, Inc; Big Brothers Big Sisters; Center for Children and Families, Inc; Cleveland County Career Center ? Oklahoma Employment Security Commission -- STEPS Employment Services; Crossroads Youth and Family Services Head Start; Cleveland County Genealogical Library; Full Circle Adult Day Center; Meals on Wheels; National Alliance on Mental Illness; and The Compassionate Friends.
