A Norman man has been accused of burglarizing a Moore residence and assaulting a woman with a knife, according to court documents.

Cleveland County prosecutors charged Clinton Mel Pearce, 26, Norman, on Friday with first-degree burglary and assault and battery with a deadly weapon, according to court papers. Pearce was arrested and booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center Friday. His bond was set at $200,000.

According to a court affidavit filed with the charges, the burglary and assault happened a little before 1 a.m. Oct. 28. A woman told police that a man entered her home without permission. He entered her bedroom as she slept in her bed.

"The defendant rolled her over and began to punch her in the face with his closed fist as well as place a rag over her mouth and face," the affidavit stated. "The victim began to actively resist the defendant by pushing him away with her legs and arms.

According to the affidavit, the woman's two children heard their mother screaming and went into her bedroom. The children were placed in a closet.

The burglar pushed the woman back on her bed and put a "large, triangular shaped object to her neck," the affidavit showed. "The victim grabbed the object and with her left hand and was cut on her wrist and hand."

According to the affidavit, the woman also suffered cuts to her neck. She was able to get off the bed, leave the house and had a neighbor call police.

The victim told police she could not identify the man who attacked her because he wore dark clothes and a black ski mask, the affidavit stated. Investigators found a black ski mask and bandana about two blocks from the woman's home.

According to the affidavit, Moore police interviewed Pearce about the incident. During separate interviews with police, Pearce made inconsistent statements about his whereabouts during the time frame of when the crimes occurred.

Court records show Pearce was convicted in Oklahoma County in August 2007 of trafficking in controlled drugs and using an offensive weapon in the commission of a felony.

He was convicted in July 2008 in Cleveland County District Court of feloniously pointing a firearm, possession of controlled drugs and two counts of uttering a forged instrument.
