Transcript Staff

Long-time Norman resident Brooks Hull has announced plans to file as a candidate for District 4 of the Norman Public Schools Board of Education.

The seat, which represents schools located in northwest Norman, currently is held by board president Ken McBride, who has announced he will not be seeking re-election.

Members of the Norman Board of Education are elected to five-year terms. The three-day filing period opens Dec. 1 and the election is Feb. 10.

"Our public school system is one of the best in the state. The challenge for all of us is to not be satisfied with being one of the best, but to be the best," Hull said. "Our kids deserve excellence in education and we must strive to provide that opportunity for all of them."

Leading Hull's campaign are Charles R. Hollingsworth, honorary chairman; Andy Paden and Gina Mitchell, co-chairs; and Dan Quinn, treasurer.

Hull serves as executive director of development for the University of Oklahoma College of Engineering. Prior to joining OU in 1999, he was director for community development at the Norman Chamber of Commerce.

Hull's current professional and community leadership positions include membership on the board of directors of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education District IV (Southwest region). He previously served as president of the Norman Public Library and member of the library's Board of Advisors. He also is a former member of the boards of directors of the Norman Chamber of Commerce and Norman Public School Foundation and is a graduate of Leadership Norman.

Hull and his wife, Kerri, have two sons, both of whom attend Truman Elementary School. He holds a bachelor's degree in public affairs and administration and a master's degree in human relations, both from OU.
