Candidates for school board, city council file next month in McClain County
Candidates for the board of education in seven McClain County school districts may file declarations of candidacy beginning 8 a.m. Dec. 1. Candidates for the offices of city council in Purcell will begin at the same time.
The filing period for both will end 5 p.m. Dec. 3, said Marilyn McReynolds, secretary of the McClain County Election Board.
Candidates for the board of education in Mid-America Technology Center School District No. 8 also file their declarations during the same period for Office (Zone) No. 5, a five year term.
The board of education positions at stake will be filled at the annual school election Feb. 10. If no candidate receives more than half the total votes cast in this election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in an election April 7.
Offices for which declarations of candidacy will be accepted at the McClain County Election Board office include the following:
· Blanchard School District No. I-29 -- Office No. 4, 5-year term
· Byars School District No. C-4 -- Office No. 2, 3-year term; Office No. 1, unexpired term
· Dibble School District No. I-2 -- Office No. 4, 5-year term; Office No. 2, unexpired term
· Newcastle School District No. I-1-- Office No. 4, 5-year term
· Purcell School District No. I-15 -- Office No. 4, 5-year term; Office No. 5, unexpired term
· Washington School District No. I-5 -- Office No. 4, 5-year term
· Wayne SD No. I-10 -- Office No. 4, 5-year term
Offices for which declaration of candidacy for the City of Purcell will be accepted include the following:
· City Council Division No. 2 (one three year term)
