Purcell lights up its lake
Lights from the Heart, a 2.5-mile display lighted scenes, around Purcell's City Lake, is bigger and brighter than last year's inaugural event.
The 2008 Lights from the Heart festival will kick off the night before Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, and continue through Dec. 31.
The festival is free and open to the public. Last year, about 18,000 vehicles traveled through the display.
Four new structures will be included this year, along with several rehabilitated structures. Three of the new structures include big hearts that greet visitors at the entrance.
There will be seven multiple-arch, drive-through, animated and static displays and 200 separate lighted holiday structures.
This year, Santa Claus and his helpers will be near the exit in a heated building. Children will have an opportunity to give Santa a wish list and have their picture taken with him.
Horse drawn carriage rides, offered by David Moore, will return this year. Rides will be offered on weekends as weather permits. There will be a charge for the ride.
Lights from the Heart will be open 5:30-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5:30-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
