Twenty-two teachers in the Norman Public Schools have been named as Site Teachers of the Year for 2010, the district recently announced.

The teachers are: Cari Elledge, Adams Elementary; Adrian Pearson, Cleveland Elementary; Kim Isaac, Eisenhower Elementary; Brad Talley, Jackson Elementary; Kathy McLaughlin, Jefferson Elementary; Gena Ratcliff, Kennedy Elementary; Keith Vermillion, Lakeview Elementary; Kim Flores, Lincoln Elementary; Janet McKenzie, Madison Elementary; Ann Ward, McKinley Elementary; Norma Ting, Monroe Elementary; Whitney Lawrence, Roosevelt Elementary; Johnnie Keel, Truman Elementary; Brandi Caldwell, Washington Elementary; Sarah Bishop, Wilson Elementary; Barbara Rice, Alcott Middle School; Stephanie Williams, Irving Middle School; Aaron McGoldrick, Longfellow Middle School; Hollis Clarke, Whittier Middle School; Julie Bonner, Norman High School; Jeremy Walker, Norman North High School; and Scott Olsen, Alternative Education.

"The Norman Public Schools have many excellent teachers, and these teachers certainly represent the quality of instruction that we have in our district," Superintendent Joe Siano said. "To be recognized by your peers is a wonderful tribute as a professional."

The Staff Development Committee will be interviewing all of these teachers in February, said Dr. Shirley Simmons, Director of Staff Development and Student Achievement. All site Teachers of the Year are eligible to be named Norman Public Schools District Teacher of the Year.

Teachers must submit mini-portfolios to the committee that will include a resume, philosophy of teaching, professional development training, community service and a three- to five-minute unedited video of their classroom instruction interacting with students.

District finalists will be announced in February. All finalists are required to submit a more comprehensive portfolio to the committee. This will include a 30-minute interview and a 10-minute unedited videotape of their classroom instruction. The committee will also review writing skills, biography sketch, personal teaching style, overall ability to communicate, education issues and trends, professional responsibilities and activities, and community involvement. Letters of recommendation are also required.

One of the finalists will be named Norman District Teacher of the Year at the Celebration of Excellence banquet to be held in April 2010.
