NEW: Free children's chorus concert Saturday

The Norman Children's Chorus will present a free Winter Concert at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at Catlett Music Center on the OU campus. The concert is funded in part by a grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council.

Norman Children's Chorus celebrates its seventeenth season this year. The concert will feature a variety of accompaniments, including handbells, flute, guitar, bass and percussion and cello. The concert begins with Songs of Olde and the Ringing of Bells, proceeds to carols and lullabies from many lands, including songs from the Hispanic and Slovakian cultures.

It ends with songs of stars and snow, especially the ever popular Let it Snow. This piece will feature 8th grade members as soloists.

“Our 70 students are working hard and singing well,” said Sandy Knudson, artistic director. “What a delight to work with singers from all over the community, coming together to make music in this ensemble.”

The semester will end with a performance at Rambling Oaks assisted living center.

The Norman Children's Chorus, a program of Children's Arts Network, is open to students in grades three through eight. The Chamber Choir is open by audition to fifth through eighth graders and the Descant Choir is open to all children in grades three through six who wish to sing. The chorus meets on Monday evenings at Alcott Middle School.
