NORMAN — Eldon and Maria Nance, of Norman, recently celebrated the milestone of 60 years of marriage. The couple was married Dec. 20, 1953, at the First Christian Church in Carnegie.
In 1958, the Nances moved to Norman after Mr. Nance completed his service with the U.S. Air Force. They soon became members of Norman’s First Christian Church and have been active in that congregation for 55 years.
Mr. Nance is a retired independent life insurance agent with Central Life Assurance Company. He officed in Norman for more than 50 years and, during that time, served in leadership roles with numerous civic organizations, including Sooner Lions Club, the Norman Business Association and the Cleveland County Family YMCA.
Mrs. Nance has enjoyed being a homemaker for her family. Her involvement has included Sweet Adelines, ladies Bible study at First Christian Church, as well as membership in Beta Sigma Phi and volunteering as a campfire leader in earlier years. Together, they participated in group square dancing for a brief time and enjoyed church fellowship, long-lasting friendships and an active family life.
Throughout the years, the couple have experienced company trips together to various destinations. In recent years, they have attended annual excursions to Branson, Mo., with the First Christian CHARM group. However, the couple is most proud of their three daughters and son-in-laws, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson. They cherish their frequent family gatherings.
Mr. and Mrs. Nance plan to celebrate their anniversary with family members during the upcoming holiday season.
