NORMAN — James Dean Warren and Ruby Hazell Six were married June 5, 1948, at McFarlin Memorial Methodist Church in Norman. They will celebrate 65 years of marriage with family and friends on June 8.
Jim and Ruby met in the spring of 1946 when Ruby came to Norman to visit her brother, Richard Six, who was attending the University of Oklahoma. Richard introduced her to the newly-elected president of the Wesley Foundation, Jim Warren. Just over two years later, Jim and Ruby married.
Jim graduated from OU with an electrical engineering degree in 1949. He worked briefly for RCA Victor in New Jersey and National Geophysical Company in Dallas before moving back to Norman, where he worked for Dorsett Electronics and successor companies until retirement. He then worked briefly for Bergey Windpower before retiring for the last time.
Ruby attended OU with an emphasis in English. She has since worked full-time as a homemaker, mother, grandmother and now great-grandmother. She has been active in church and work groups such as OU Dames and Norman Christian Women’s Connection.
Jim and Ruby faithfully attended Norman’s First Baptist Church for more than 25 years, where they both served as Sunday school teachers, on committees and in various leadership roles. Along with others from First Baptist, they helped establish Northeast Baptist Church in 1985, where they are still active members and have served in many areas of leadership.
Jim and Ruby have seven children, 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will host a reception from 1-2:30 p.m. June 8 at Northeast Baptist Church, 905 E. Rock Creek Road. Friends who would like more information about the anniversary celebration, can call Janet Schaffner at 364-6445.
