NORMAN — The children of Jack and Anita Duncan honored them Saturday night with a reception for their 50th wedding anniversary.
Jack Duncan, of Altus, and Anita Pierce, of Martha, met at church in 1958. Anita was a freshman at Martha High School and Jack was a sophomore at Altus High School.
Jack finished his first year of college while Anita completed her senior year of high school before getting married.
The couple were married Oct. 6, 1962, at the First Baptist Church in Martha. The Rev. Keith Wiginton officiated.
Their first home was in Altus, where their sons were born. They spent one year in Alva, 35 years in Norman and the last seven years in Moore.
Jack retired after 30 years at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He worked another 17 years at a telecommunications consulting firm, retiring in 2008.
Anita’s greatest achievement was being a stay-at-home mom.
After her sons were in college, she worked at Bed and Bath Boutique for a few years.
Jack enjoys his daily round of golf, yard work and writing poetry. Anita loves flower gardening, writing short stories of her family history and has taken Bible study fellowship classes for 10 years.
Some memorable trips for the couple include the Florida beaches with the entire family, golf resorts with friends and the south with its plantations, Civil War history, old cemeteries and architecture.
They are longtime members of Bethel Baptist Church, serving in many capacities over the years.
Their sons are David and wife Marla and Derrek and wife Cher, all of Norman. Grandchildren include Kathryn, Elizabeth, Taylor, Hailey, Cadyn and Trace.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with an Alaskan cruise in July and plan to go to New York City this month.
