NORMAN — Bob and Margaret Wathen Bauer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last week at the Holiday Inn in Norman with family and friends.

The couple married Dec. 29, 1962, at the St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Owensboro, Ky.

They met in St. Louis after Margaret had attended Fontbonne College. Subsequently, she completed her Bachelor of Art in elementary education at Brescia College in Owensboro, her hometown. After their wedding, they resided in St. Louis, then in Madison, Wis., where she taught at St. James parochial school. Bob, meanwhile, finished graduate school at UW.

In August 1966, they moved to Norman. Bob joined the English department at the University of Oklahoma as an assistant professor, and Margaret was appointed as a sixth-grade teacher at St. Joseph’s school the last year it was open. She later taught at Lincoln, Madison and Whittier schools. They also opened Designer Party Foods, a catering service, and during the year since then, she has become active in St. Joseph’s parish as a twice-elected chairperson for the Golden Agers, a member of the Women’s Club, St. Monica’s Guild, coordinator of funeral dinners and manager of Friday night bingo.

After 12 years of teaching at OU, Bob became a Realtor and is employed with Don Cies Real Estate. He has had several positions with the Norman Board of Realtors and has served as instructor of the broker’s license course. He has served on parish council for two terms at St. Joseph’s, served as coordinator of the lectors and Mass readers, treasurer in the Knights of Columbus and a weekly member of Cursillo group reunion since 1985.

Their older son Curt, a recent OU graduate in liberal studies, is employed at the Hartzog firm in Oklahoma City. Their younger son, Chris, earned his Ph.D. in clinical neuropsychology and is employed at UCSF medical school in Fresno, Calif., where he lives with his wife, Cyndi, and daughter, Alyssa.
