NORMAN — Richard and Kathleen Geiger of Norman will celebrate 50 years of marriage July 1.
They met at a truck stop in North Carolina, after Kathleen’s car broke down and a state trooper gave her a ride to the truck stop, where she worked to pay for the repairs to her car. Richard had just reported in from a tour overseas with the U.S. Marines. “Sometimes a cup of coffee is more than a cup of coffee,” Richard said.
Richard remained in the Marine Corps for 22 more years. They have lived in North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, California and Florida. They have lived in Cleveland County for six and a half years.
Richard and Kathleen are members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where they are active in the Golden Agers and serve on the bingo committee, teach religion education classes for children and serve as sacrastan on Saturday night Mass. They also teach a line dancing class.
The couple have two daughters, Charlene Shea of Norman and Sandi Hall of Jacksonville, Fla. They have seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one on the way.
A small celebration is planned for July.
