NORMAN — Bonnie and Bob White Jr., of Norman, are celebrating their 60th anniversary during a reception from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at The Santa Fe Train Depot, 200 S. Jones Ave.
Bob met the former Bonnie Thorton in 1952 while they were high school students at Plainview High School in Wichita, Kan. They were married at the First Christian Church in Wichita on April 30, 1954.
Bob graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1958 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was on the staff at the University of Oklahoma for approximately 20 years and has owned and operated a consulting engineering company since 1979.
Bonnie has been a homemaker while working part-time at OU for 20 years. She is active in the Norman Area Quilters Guild.
Both have been involved in the Norman Art League, Norman baseball and softball programs, Olympic weightlifting coaching and various professional organizations.
They are longtime members of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church and are active in programs within the church.
They have two children, Mark White of Newport Beach, Calif., and Lea Ann Pickett of Norman; six grandchildren, Mandi Pickett, Collin Pickett, Cole White, Kelly White, Jaxson White and Jessica White; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan Lacher and Mackenzie Lacher.
