Maxwell’s celebrate 50 years

NORMAN — Wayne and Carolee Maxwell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 25. The celebration was held at the Walnut Creek Wedding Chapel and Celebration Center in Oklahoma City and was attended by family and friends.

The Maxwells were united in marriage in Tishomingo on Aug. 27, 1962. They met while attending Tishomingo High School and were married while Carolee was attending Oklahoma College for Women and Wayne was serving in the United States Army. Upon Wayne’s discharge from military service in 1964, the Maxwells attended East Central University in Ada where Wayne received a bachelor degree and later a masters degree in education administration.

The Maxwells, later served in several different school systems across the state, Wayne becoming a school superintendent and Carolee an administrative assistant. Wayne served as superintendent of schools in Lexington through the 1980s, retiring from the superintendency in Purcell in 2005. 

Highlights of the wedding anniversary celebration was the renewal of marriage vows, where upon invitation, three other couples, Herb and Trish Cox, Ennis and Sherry Walls and Matt and Kassidy Malone, joined the Maxwells in the ceremony. The vow ceremony was officiated by Pastor Bob Greene from The Calling Church of Norman.

The remainder of the evening was spent in the celebration center where music was provided by “Mr. Rock & Roll” Ronnie Kaye.

Wayne and Carolee site as one of their most enjoyed accomplishments together as the writing of their book “Touched By Greatness.”

The Maxwell children include Brandon Maxwell and daughter, Sheridon, 15, Louisville, K.Y., and Malee Isenberg, her husband Chad and daughter, Ellianna, 3, Bartlesville.
