It is that time of year -- when Moore's High School students will participate in one of the oldest school traditions known as The Prom and its traditional after-prom parties.
However, due to a new ordinance the after-prom parties are expected to change.
On Nov. 19, 2007, the Moore City Council adopted a Social Host Ordinance, making it illegal for adults to contribute alcohol to multiple minors on private property, city officials said.
Under this ordinance, parents, if found in violation the host will be asked to disperse the party and all offenders can be arrested. The host also may be fined up to $500 and be prosecuted. In addition, the City can even add on administrative fees and response costs in addition to the fine.
Law enforcement officials are urging parents and teens to make this a safe and memorable prom night not only for the students but for the community by not providing alcohol.
