NORMAN — Readers eager to curl up with a book or shoppers looking for holiday bargains are invited to the Big Book Sale today through Monday, sponsored by Friends of the Norman Library.

The annual fall event will be at the Norman Public Library, 225 N. Webster Ave. A preview sale for members of the Friends of the Norman Library will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today. Memberships may be purchased in the library lobby, starting at 9 a.m. the day of the sale. Annual memberships are $10 for individuals and $25 for families.

The sale will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 3 to 8 p.m. Monday. All the general sale books that you can stuff into a paper sack, handed out at the door, are $5. All books in the Collectibles and Better Books rooms will be discounted by 50 percent Monday. There is no admission charge.

The general sale will be in the Lowry Room, and children’s general sale books will be in the children’s Story Time Room. Small paperbacks will sell for 50 cents; large paperbacks, hardbacks, videos, audiotapes, CDs and records will be priced at $1. Sets and miscellaneous items are priced as marked.

To help reduce congestion in the sale areas, shoppers will be asked to avoid using large carts or strollers and to keep aisles clear by parking carts in open areas.

Any unsold books (excluding collectibles) will be donated to qualified nonprofit organizations, libraries and educational institutions. Interested organizations or volunteers should call Friends of the Norman Library at 360-4346.

Proceeds from the book sale, along with Friends membership dues, are used to provide the library with funds for materials, equipment and books that are not funded through other sources.
