White is the hot color for this game

NORMAN — Striping the stadium is causing some challenging problems for some fans, especially those trying to be prepared for a cool-evening game.

“Everybody wants cold-weather gear, so it’s kind of been a scramble,” said Mitchel Barker of Balfour of Norman. “Pretty much everybody wants white, because nobody has white cold-weather gear. It’s odd-numbered sections that are supposed to wear white.”

The OU Athletics Department has asked fans in even-numbered sections to wear crimson, while fans in odd-numbered sections are asked to wear white. The idea is to make a bold color statement reflecting Sooner pride for all those watching on television.

Fans are already out, trying to buy apparel to wear to the big game. Doug Kennon, owner of Sooner Legends, said he usually wears crimson at home games but is sitting in a white section.

Balfour’s Barker said Campus Corner is hopping.

So far, the fans are all Sooners, but he said he knows the Fighting Irish are on the way.

“All of the hoodies have done really well, and all of the novelty sweatshirts have done really well,” said Stephanie Farris, manager of Dillards Ladies Ready-to-Wear. “We do have a fair mix of white and crimson.”

Farris said evening games are a boost to business.

“It is tremendous the out-of-towners who come in and go to the mall before they head to the game or to tail-gate parties,” Farris said.

Kristy Baze, an OU junior who works at Balfour, will be working on game day but wishes she could go to the game. In the meantime, she’s helping fans find that special OU gear.

“Everyone is looking for the white Oklahoma long-sleeved shirts and white hoodies,” Baze said. “But we do have a lot of people coming in for the ‘Beat Notre Dame’ shirts as well.
