Jack D. Shannon, 64, Bolingbrook, Ill., died Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital. He was a retired research scientist from Argonne National Laboratory, author of many articles on atmospheric physics.
Dr. Shannon was born Oct. 18, 1943, in McAlister to Jack and Ruby Wehunt Shannon. He attended the University of Oklahoma earning a BS in mathematics and was commander of the Air Force ROTC program at OU, Phi Beta Kappa and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He was a Vietnam veteran with the Air Force. He returned to OU and achieved a master's and doctorate degree in meteorology before beginning his career at Argonne in 1977.
Dr. Shannon is survived by his brother Thomas A. and his wife Judianne of Cardiff by theSea, Calif., their daughters Allison Moore (husband Richard), Michaela Krams (husband Curtis) and Brittany Shannon; brother Kelly and his wife Manuela of San Antonio and their daughter Alexandria Mendoza.; and eight grandnieces and nephews.
An Irish wake, celebration of his life will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Bolingbrook. Bolingbrook-McCauley funeral home is handling arrangements.
