NORMAN — Larry James Smith, age 64, of Norman, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, in Springfield, Mo. He was born June 26, 1949, to Randolf and Winnie Smith in Purcell.
Larry was raised in Purcell. He moved to Norman, where he lived for 25 years, and later spent the last three years in Springfield, Mo. He attended Purcell schools, graduating in 1967 from Purcell High School. Larry married Mary Ann Talley on Aug. 20, 1970, in Norman, where they raised their son.
He served his country in the Air National Guard. Larry retired as a civil servant from Tinker Air Force Base.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Little Axe, where he was very active as the music minister for 14 years. Church was his main focus in life.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 35 years, Mary Ann; sisters Billie Gullion, Aileen Knoll and Kathrine Smith; and brothers Johnnie Smith, Gene Smith, Ralph Smith, Guy Smith and Raymond Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory are a son, James Smith of Willard, Mo.; sister and brother-in-law, Eloise and Sherman Foster of Shawnee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Darrell and Sandy Smith of Oregon City, Ore., Bobby and Faye Smith of Fittstown and Rue Dell and Ozella Smith of Booneville, Ark.; and many extended family and friends.
Visitation will continue through service time at Cooper Funeral Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at Little Axe Baptist Church, with Bro. Sunny Stuart officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.
