NORMAN — James “Jim, Jimmy” Robert Loughmiller, 69, of Norman, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, from a yearlong battle with prostate cancer.
Jim was born Sept. 13, 1944, in Norman to Ralph Francis Loughmiller Sr. and Nadyne Pettit. He graduated from Norman High School in 1962. He married Ardella Jean Marsh on Feb. 23, 1963. They were married 45 years.
Jim worked as a meat cutter for Safeway, then Homeland for 31 years. In addition, he owned and operated Ardella’s Flowers and Garden Center for 33 years. He was actively involved in the Loyal Order of the Moose for 21 years and, in 2005, was awarded the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, the highest award given for service to the Loyal Order of the Moose International.
Jim was a member of the first class of the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Deputies. He was a lieutenant and served for more than 20 years. He will be escorted to his final resting place by the Reserve Deputies. One of Jim’s hobbies was restoring his 1931 Ford Model A, which he enjoyed for almost 40 years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Jo Clark.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Jayme Nurse and her husband Greg of Norman; companion, Normal Sweet; brother, Ralph Francis Jr. and his wife Kathy of Austin, Texas; Ardella Loughmiller of Norman; numerous nieces and nephews; and many longtime personal friends and his extended family at the Norman Moose Lodge.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crosspointe Church in Norman, with Bro. Joe Grizzle officiating. Interment will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Norman.
Arrangements for Jim and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
