NORMAN — Joyce Weiss, 82, of Norman, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Holiday Heights Nursing Home in Norman. She was the wife of Dr. Robert Weiss, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Oklahoma.
Born Dec. 17, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Weiss was a 45-year resident of Norman. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at The Ohio State University and a master’s degree from the Russian Institute at Columbia University.
During the early 1950s she was stationed in Austria where she served as a case officer in the CIA, recruiting and developing foreign agents during the politically volatile years of the Hungarian Revolution. Later in life her main interests and contributions were assisting her husband mentor doctoral students in the field of psychology. She will be sorely missed.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Aviva Weiss Grele and her husband Eric of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; two grandsons, Leif and Ari Grele of Bainbridge Island; and one granddaughter, Athena Grele, of State College, Penn.
