Dudley Wells

NORMAN — Dudley Wells, 68, of Purcell, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at his home. Charles Dudley Wells was born Jan. 25, 1945 in Mabank, Texas, the second of five children born to James Dudley Wells and Juanita Ruth (Grasham) Wells.

The family moved from West Texas to Purcell when Dudley was young. While in school, Dudley played football, but his first love was track, and he still holds the Dragon record for the discus throw.

He graduated from Purcell High School in 1963. Later that same year, he married his best friend and true love, Connie Ann Mantooth.

Together they raised two sons, John and Jeff. Dudley worked for many years as a tool pusher and driller on offshore oil rigs. His work would allow him an opportunity to travel and see the world, and even live overseas.

Dudley cherished his family and looked forward to family get-togethers where he could cookout for everyone. He loved spending time at the lake, fishing and skiing. Dudley was kind hearted, and a great provider for his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Juanita Wells; and a sister, Leah Foster.

Dudley is survived by his wife, Connie of the home; sons, John Wells and wife Sheri of Oklahoma City and Jeff Wells and wife Suzanne of Purcell; brothers Keith Wells and wife Jill of Norman and J.R. Wells and wife Pam of Addison, Texas; sister, Wanda Johnson and husband Everett of Waggoner; grandchildren who are his pride and joy, Ali and Adam, and Hunter; sisters in law, Rose Mantooth McCurdy of Purcell and Dorothy Anderson & husband Lloyd of Purcell; and a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of life for Dudley will be Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the park pavilion in Chandler Park in Purcell. The cookout for all of Dudley’s friends and family will begin at noon.

Arrangements by Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
